Annual AgVentures!® Day Shares Agriculture With 1,400 Students

Tulare, CA – The International Agri-Center® is set to host the seventh annual AgVentures!® Day on Friday, May 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the east end of the grounds. Fourth grade students from Tulare and Visalia schools have been invited to this one-day educational event. More than 1,400 students will have the opportunity to explore farming, food and fun, through presentations aimed at teaching them about agriculture and nutrition. Hands-on activities will encourage students to engage with local food producers and learn more about Tulare County agriculture.

Students will observe demonstrations by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Ag Crime Unit, Mobile Dairy Classroom, and the Reedley College Mule Team. Students will also have the opportunity learn about healthy food choices and sample California grown products from local companies, including Land O’ Lakes cheese, Wonderful Company Halos, Musco olives, National Raisin Company raisins, Sun-Maid Raisins, and Rosa Brothers Milk Company milk.

“The mission of the International Agri-Center is fulfilled through AgVentures! Day. We dedicate ourselves to educating children about the vital role agriculture plays in their daily lives,” said Kerissa Chapman, Ag Education Manager at the International Agri-Center®. “We see the importance of starting that process close to home, so our local children see the impact of this industry—from a future career perspective and to gain an appreciation for the healthy foods and resources we provide for the world.”

Alongside the International Agri-Center®, AgVentures!® Day is supported in part by the University of California Cooperative Extension, the Tulare County Farm Bureau, and Farm Credit West. Class groups will be led by VTEC High School students and the event will be staffed by International Agri-Center® volunteers and staff.

The event is made available to fourth grade teachers and students at local schools by invitation only and benefits from the expertise of local ag professionals. Media outlets are encouraged to attend to help focus attention on the importance of agriculture in everyday life.
